I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Festive Season is approaching and many parcels are being left unattended, thus giving opportunity to parcel theft. SNT St. Dunstans Safer Neighbourhood Team Would like to share some advice and options to keep your parcels secure.
1: Use click and collect options. Many retailers offer this service, allowing to pick up your items from a designated location at your convenience.
2: Choose a safe delivery location. If you are unavailable consider having your parcel delivered to a trusted neighbour or friend. Or a secure workplace.
3: Specify delivery instructions. Provide detailed instructions to the courier, such as leave the parcel in a safe, hidden spot or behind a locked gate.
4: Use delivery lockers. Some courier companies provide secure lockers where you can retrieve your parcel with a unique code.
5: Be vigilante if you notice suspicious activity around your neighbourhood. Please report it to us immediately.
6: Track your parcel to ensure you or someone else is at home for the delivery.
7: Install a video doorbell. This can connect to your mobile phone so you are notified immediately of any delivery. This is easier to install than a full CCTV system.
In Emergency call 999 or non-emergency call 101.
While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
